My days have been consumed with figuring out last minute capital budgets and what we're going to do to get a grip on our web app development. Not suprisingly, I'm leaning towards going the Open Source route for source control and issue tracking. Yes, CVS and some sort of Bugzilla type of web issue tracking. And, yes, I know alot about CVS' shortcomings. I'd much prefer Perforce
for source control, but such is life. Maybe someday we'll invest a bit more in the dev environment, but first we need to get some of the basics out of the way. I've got CVSNT
running over SSH on an XP Pro box (we'll be running Windows servers due to the network team here not wanting to support Linux), SmartCVS
for the CVS client, Guiffy
for the diff/merge tool and Zend Studio
for the PHP IDE. If we do any Java stuff, then we'll likely use Eclipse
It feels as though I'm scrambling here. I think that's because I am scrambling. Hmmm... I wasn't expecting management to take my advice to heart so quickly. I guess that's what I get for coming up with these ideas of mine.
